GNP+ takes part as a co-organiser and co-sponsor of different key events and conferences in the international HIV response, such as the International AIDS Conference and the HIV/AIDS Implementers' Meeting, for example. In addition, GNP+ historically is the lead organiser of the International Conference for people living with HIV, which last took place in Mexico City in 2008.
LIVING2008: The Positive Leadership Summit was the 12th
international conference for people living with HIV since 1987. These international gatherings of people living with HIV have been of
tremendous importance to many positive people from around the world.
Meeting in a safe and empowering environment has contributed both to
their personal growth and to a strengthening of the PLHIV movement. LIVING2008 was organised just prior to AIDS2008, and aimed to strengthen the movement of people living with HIV through promoting the
involvement and leadership of people living with HIV in the global HIV
response, as well as benefiting participants and programming at both
the Positive Leadership Summit and AIDS 2008.
While the International AIDS Conference is a bi-annual event that focusses both on scientific developments as well as civil society involvement in the response, the HIV/AIDS Implementers’ Meeting is an annual conference that focuses on implementation of best practices and lessons learnt for HIV implementers worldwide. At both conferences, GNP+ specifically aims to strengthen the participation of civil society and the involvement of organizations of people living with HIV.

The Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+) calls on people
living with HIV to share their knowledge and experience and submit
abstracts and workshops to be presented at AIDS2010.
Are you a person living with HIV working on programmes focused on leadership and accountability or involving and empowering communities? Are you ready to share your best practices or can you help people with professional scientific development? Are you providing treatment, care or counseling for other people living with HIV? Do you work in prevention, help with testing, defend human rights, or in any other way to help improve the quality of life of people living with HIV?

LIVING2008: The Positive Leadership Summit was the twelfth
International Conference of People living with HIV, but was a first in
many other things. It was the first International Conference of people
living with HIV organised by a consortium of 11 agencies, known as the
LIVING2008 Partnership, with GNP+ acting as the ‘secretariat’ for the
Partnership. In addition, the LIVING2008 was the first International
Conference of People living with HIV organised immediately prior to an
International AIDS Conference (IAC).

LIVING 2008 – organized by the LIVING 2008 partnership - was a momentous event, the first gathering of positive leaders from around the world in five years. It was an opportunity to take stock of where the PLHIV movement stands, what its challenges are and how to react to them, and where to go from there. The preparations for LIVING 2008 included a gathering of 40 HIV positive leaders entitled “HIV+ Monaco” held in Monaco from 24-26 January 2008.
