The Global Network of People living with HIV and AIDS (GNP+) advocates
to improve the quality of life of all people living with HIV. The
central theme for the work of GNP+ for 2007 and beyond is Reclaiming Our Lives!.
The GNP+ programs are organised under three platforms for action:
- Sexual and reproductive health and rights of people living with HIV
- Human rights of people living with HIV
- Empowerment of people living with HIV
The platforms for action are a reflection of the Global Advocacy
Agenda, which was agreed upon at the 1999 International Conference of
People Living with HIV/AIDS in Warsaw, Poland. The Global Advocacy
Agenda stated three main objectives:
- To increase access to treatment, care and prevention programs for all people living with HIV.
- To decrease stigma and discrimination directed towards people living with HIV
- Increased and more meaningful involvement of people living with HIV at all levels and in every aspect of the HIV response
GNP+ is currently responding to this challenge with the
support of the Netherlands Ministry of Development Cooperation, the Norwegian
Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), and the UK Department for International
Development (DfID).
