UNDP has announced the call for nominations for the biennial Red Ribbon Award: Celebrating Community Leadership and Action on AIDS. This international award, a partnership of the UNAIDS family, will honor exceptional grassroots leadership in responding to the AIDS epidemic and will be presented at the XVII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008), to be held in Mexico City, 3-8 August 2008.

The Red Ribbon Award honors community organizations whose work has made a significant contribution to addressing HIV and AIDS. Twenty-five community organizations will be selected as award winners, with the opportunity to showcase their work at the International AIDS Conference. The winners will receive US$5,000 each, and five of the organizations will be awarded a special recognition and an additional US$15,000. Today we ask for your support in widely disseminating and publicizing the Red Ribbon Award call for nominations. Nominations for the award will be accepted in the following categories:

• Providing access to care, treatment and support for people living with HIV
• Promoting human rights and addressing social injustices such as homophobia, sexism and any other forms of stigma and discrimination
• Empowering women and girls and addressing gender inequalities that fuel the spread of HIV
• Providing support to children orphaned by AIDS and other vulnerable children
• Promoting HIV prevention programmes and services

“The Red Ribbon Award is a unique prize in that it discovers grassroots innovation and brings visibility to community initiatives that otherwise would go unnoticed. Since we won a Red Ribbon Award, our activities have been increasingly recognized and supported locally, regionally and internationally”, says Betty Makoni from the Girl Child Network in Zimbabwe. The 2006 Red Ribbon Award winners have indeed found that the award has enabled them to gain recognition and attract additional funding, which in turn has increased their reach and efficacy in responding to AIDS.

UNDP annonçée l’appel aux candidatures pour le Prix Ruban Rouge : Célébrer le Leadership et l’Action des Communautés sur le Sida (Red Ribbon Award). Ce prix international, partenariat de la famille d’ONUSIDA, rendra hommage aux initiatives exceptionnelles d’organisations de terrain qui démontrent un leadership remarquable lors de leurs réponses à l’épidémie, et sera présenté lors du XVIIème Congrès International sur le Sida (AIDS 2008) , qui se déroulera au Mexique, du 3 au 8 août 2008.

Le Prix Ruban Rouge est exceptionnel en ce qu’il rend hommage aux organisations communautaires dont les actions font une différence sur le VIH et sida. Vingt-cinq organisations communautaires de par le monde seront choisies comme lauréates et invitées à présenter leur travail au cours du Congrès sur le Sida. Ces 25 lauréates recevront 5,000 dollars chacune, et cinq d’entre elles recevront une reconnaissance spéciale et 15,000 dollars supplémentaires. Aujourd’hui nous sollicitons votre soutien afin de diffuser le message et notre appel aux candidatures. Celles-ci seront acceptées dans l’une ou plusieurs des catégories suivantes :

•  Fournir l’accès aux soins, traitements et soutien aux personnes vivant avec le VIH,
•  Promouvoir les droits de l’homme et faire face aux injustices sociales telles que l’homophobie, le sexisme et autres formes de rejet et de discrimination,
• Autonomiser les femmes et les filles et lutter contre les inégalités sexuelles qui nourrissent la prolifération du VIH,
• Fournir un appui aux enfants rendus orphelins par le sida et autres enfants vulnérables,
• Promouvoir les programmes et services de prévention du VIH.

« Le Prix Ruban Rouge est unique en ce qu’il découvre l’innovation sur le terrain et offre une visibilité a des initiatives communautaires qui seraient sans lui peu connues.  Depuis que nous avons reçu le Prix, nos activités sont bien mieux reconnues et soutenues au niveau local, régional et international », a déclaré Betty Makoni du Girl Child Network au Zimbabwe. Les lauréats du prix 2006 ont en effet communiqué que le prix a attiré plus de reconnaissance et de financements, leur permettant ainsi de continuer et étendre leurs efforts sur le sida auprès des communautés.

Vos réseaux peuvent nous permettre d’atteindre les organisations communautaires et soutenir leurs inestimables efforts. Leur courage et leur leadership pavent le chemin vers les Objectifs du Millénaire pour le Développement, communauté par communauté.

Estimados colegas y amigos,
Nos complacemos lanzar la convocatoria para las nominaciones al Premio Cinta Roja: Celebrando la Iniciativa y el Liderazgo Comunitario sobre SIDA (Red Ribbon Award).  Este premio internacional, una colaboración de la familia de ONUSIDA, honrará y celebrará el liderazgo de organizaciones comunitarias por responder a la epidemia de SIDA, y se otorgará durante la Conferencia Internacional sobre SIDA que se desarrollará en México D.F., del 3 al 8 de agosto de 2008.

El Premio Cinta Roja se otorga a organizaciones comunitarias cuales iniciativas han logrado contribuir de manera excepcional a la respuesta al VIH y SIDA. Veinticinco organizaciones comunitarias serán seleccionadas como ganadoras del Premio Cinta Roja y tendrán la oportunidad de presentar su trabajo durante la Conferencia Internacional sobre SIDA.  Los 25 ganadores recibirán 5.000 dólares de los EE.UU, y cinco de estas comunidades recibirán un reconocimiento especial y otros 15.000 dólares. “Las comunidades están en la línea del frente al abordar los desafíos fundamentales del VIH”, dijo Peter Piot, Director Ejecutivo del Programa Conjunto de las Naciones Unidas sobre el VIH -SIDA (ONUSIDA) durante la ruenda de prensa para lanzar el premio en México. “Honrar su labor y fomentar la replicación de las iniciativas comunitarias es esencial para el éxito en la respuesta global.”

Hoy pedimos su apoyo para diseminar la convocatoria al Premio Cinta Roja 2008. Se  aceptan nominaciones SIDA en las categorías siguientes:

• Ofrecer acceso a atención, tratamiento y apoyo para la gente que vive con VIH
• Promover derechos humanos y atender injusticias sociales como la homofobia, el sexismo y cualquier otra forma de estigma y discriminación
• Empoderar a mujeres y niñas y atender las desigualdades de género que ayudan a esparcir el VIH
• Ofrecer apoyo a los niños huérfanos a causa del SIDA y otros infantes vulnerable
• Promover programas y servicios de prevención del VIH

"El Premio Cinta Roja es un único en que descubre la innovación comunitaria y trae visibilidad a iniciativas de la comunidad que serán de otra manera inadvertidas. Desde que ganamos el premio , nuestras actividades se han reconocido cada vez más y apoyado localmente, regionalmente e internacionalmente ", dice Betty Makoni del Girl Child Network en Zimbabwe. Los ganadores de 2006 han compartido que el premio les ha permitido ganar reconocimiento y atraer financiamiento adicional, que alternadamente ha aumentado su alcance y eficacia en responder al SIDA.

Sus redes pueden ayudarnos a alcanzar organizaciones comunitarias y a apoyar sus esfuerzos cruciales. El liderazgo valeroso de estas comunidades está pavimentando el camino hacia los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio, una comunidad a la vez.
