The Global Network of People living with HIV and AIDS (GNP+) advocates to improve the quality of life of all people living with HIV. The central theme for the work of GNP+ for 2007 and beyond is Reclaiming Our Lives!.

The GNP+ programs are organised under three platforms for action:

  • Sexual and reproductive health and rights of people living with HIV
  • Human rights of people living with HIV
  • Empowerment of people living with HIV

The platforms for action are a reflection of the Global Advocacy Agenda, which was agreed upon at the 1999 International Conference of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Warsaw, Poland. The Global Advocacy Agenda stated three main objectives:

  • To increase access to treatment, care and prevention programs for all people living with HIV.
  • To decrease stigma and discrimination directed towards people living with HIV
  • Increased and more meaningful involvement of people living with HIV at all levels and in every aspect of the HIV response

In November 2005 the Global Advocacy Agenda was revalidated at the Nairobi Think Tank Meeting, where a group of PLHIV leaders discussed how to improve the global movement. They challenged the networks to improve their responsiveness to their constituents and to become more professional in their approach to using evidence to inform policies and programs.

GNP+ is currently responding to this challenge with the support of the UK Department for International Development (DfID), the Netherlands Ministry of Development Cooperation, and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
