As a network based on emancipation and self-determination, the Global Network of People living with HIV functions as a network of networks. GNP+ works closely with national and regional networks of people living with HIV in Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America and North America.

GNP+ helped found and make independent six regional networks covering Africa (NAP+), Asia-Pacific (APN+), the Caribbean (CRN+), Europe (GNP+ Europe), Latin America (Redla+) and North America (GNP+ NA). The six networks have prime influence on GNP+ policy as each of these networks nominate two representatives to the Board of GNP+, one male and one female. Board members serve a 2 year term, with the Board having at least one face to face meeting annually.

A Secretariat Council consisting of the 2 Co-chairs, Treasurer and up to three other Board members, supports the GNP+ International Coordinator / CEO in ensure an effective and representative organisation that answers to the needs of people living with HIV worldwide.

Currently (June 2011) the following people are serving on the GNP+ Board.

GNP+ and its affiliated networks work intensely together to roll out global programmes on regional level and as liaison with national networks. The GNP+ Secretariat currently employs 10 staff.

In addition, GNP+ employs a Technical Support Officer, Mr. Gavin Reid, to support the networks of people living with HIV implementing, the HIV Leadership through Accountability programme, which GNP+ is rolling out together with the World AIDS Campaign. Gavin Reid is hosted by the World AIDS Campaign, at their office in Cape Town, South Africa.
