Evidence Brief on Stigma and Discrimination at Work: Findings from the PLHIV Stigma Index
This evidence brief, prepared by the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), with support from the ILO Programme on HIV/AIDS and the world of work (ILO/AIDS), provides a snapshot of the extent and impact of HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the workplace. The brief is based on findings from the PLHIV Stigma Index in nine countries across the globe.
According to the brief, HIV remains a major obstacle to individuals in finding work and continues to be a main barrier to employment security generally. HIV-related stigma and discrimination directly impede access to work, obstructing entry to the labour market, changing the type of work individuals are allowed to perform, preventing promotion, triggering dismissal, and impeding access to education and training.

There will be a poster presentation by GNP+ on the evidence brief during the Washington conference (AIDS, 2012), and the brief will be discussed in key events organized by GNP+ and the ILO during the conference.
