Young PLHIV advocacy towards UNGASS

yplhiv_ungass_messages-W70GNP+ and the World AIDS Campaign have developed key advocacy priority messages and a briefing paper by and for young people living with HIV to inform the UNGASS process.

These priorities were formulated based on results from an online survey with 168 young people living with HIV from 55 countries, as well as a literature review and interviews with several key informants.

These consultations show that the 5 priority concerns of young people living with HIV are:

  • Universal Access to comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, care and support
  • Rights
  • Meaningful involvement
  • Leadership
  • Safe disclosure.

GNP+, WAC and YPLHIV will utilize the results of the consultations to inform:

  • The Civil Society Hearings
  • UNGASS High Level Meeting
  • Lobbying efforts with UN Missions involved with the UNGASS process

The key advocacy messages and briefing paper have been developed as part of the Y+ programme of GNP+. The Y+ programme aims to strengthen the position of young people living with HIV within networks of people living with HIV, ensuring their work responds to the specific needs of young people living with HIV.
