PLHIV Stigma Index update 2010

During past months several more networks of people living with HIV in countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe have been working with implementing the People Living with HIV Stigma Index. A lot of results have been pre-published during AIDS2010, the International AIDS Conference in Vienna last July.

Reports from four African countries - Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia are currently being finalised and are expected to be published here as well as on the Leadership through Accountability website early 2011. In Latin America and Asia Pacific, the teams in El Salvador, Mexico and the Phillipines are about to publish results of the research, while just recently a partnership was established in Vietnam to start implementation.

In the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region the final reports from Poland, Turkey and the Ukraine are also in preparation - Poland and Turkey were able to present some results during AIDS2010. The country teams in Estonia and Moldova are in the process of completing the data gathering.

In addition, HIV in Europe is concluding an initial findings report from a cross country analysis looking at the barriers to earlier testing and accessing treatment in Europe.
