GNP+ at IAVI European Partner’s Meeting

GNP+ participated in IAVI's European Partner's Meeting in Amsterdam on 2-3 September 2010. The meeting identified joint advocacy priorities and started the planning for a European advocacy roadmap for advocacy activities on vaccines for 2011.

The meeting included a discussion about global health trends and how the research and development of HIV vaccines sits within this context. GNP+ gave a presentation on Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention – advocating for a comprehensive approach to HIV prevention that places the individual at the centre of promoting their health and wellbeing. As such, in the process of researching vaccines, it is important to be responsive to the needs of individuals and communities who hope to benefit from the products. This includes involving people living with and affected by HIV in the research process, drawing on their expertise around the ethics of trials, and engaging them in developing referral pathways to support people who seroconvert in trials.
