GNP+ Celebrates the Life and Work of Dr. Robert Carr

The Global Network of People Living with HIV is saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Robert Carr, Director of Policy and Advocacy at ICASO.  As a fierce advocate for those most marginalized in the responses to HIV, in particular men who have sex with men, his death is a tragic loss to the global action for human rights, for all those whose voices are not heard and civil society’s demand for accountability to reach the universal access goals.

Robert was an inspiring and committed human rights advocate, working in true partnership with people living with HIV at the regional, national and global levels. He approached his activism with passion and urgency.

Robert will be missed for his professionalism and expertise as a colleague, for his persevering attitude as an advocate, for his fearlessness in demanding accountability, and for his warmth and smile as a friend.

The movement of people living with HIV has lost a strong partner and a good friend. As a leader himself, his openness to people and fresh ideas was exemplified in his mentorship of new and young leaders. His work will inspire current, emerging and future leaders in the response to HIV and AIDS.

Dr. Robert Carr will be sorely missed by the international HIV community. He will be in our hearts and thoughts this Sunday on International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day as we pause to mark all those who have fought and championed for us to live our rights.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
