The Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+) is proud to present its new strategic plan for the period 2011 to 2015. At the forefront of the HIV response for 25 years, GNP+ knows its efforts to improve the meaningful involvement and quality of life of people living with HIV are critical to turning the tide towards the UNAIDS goal of zero new infections, zero AIDS-related deaths and zero discrimination. Building on past achievements and outlining the GNP+ mission, vision, goal and purpose, the Strategic Plan prioritizes three pillars of work: global advocacy, global knowledge management, and global community building.

The Strategic Plan follows recommendations from the 2010 Strategic Review of GNP+. “Some 1160 people living with HIV and partner organisations were consulted for the review, and we have listened carefully to their ideas and criticisms,” says Anna Zakowicz, one of the co-chairs of GNP+. “With the new Strategic Plan, GNP+ will be better able to fulfill the needs of people living with HIV globally and become more effective as the global voice for people living with HIV,” says Ms. Zakowicz.

The new five-year Strategic Plan is based on the realities people living with HIV face today. “GNP+ will work to support all people living with HIV through their organisations and networks,” says Anuar Luna, co-chair of GNP+.

“Through Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention, GNP+ hopes to strengthen the involvement of people living with HIV in the HIV response,” says Mr. Luna. Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention was developed through consultation with people living with HIV on ‘positive prevention’, resulting in a framework that describes the leadership of people living with HIV in the global HIV response.

In line with the Strategic Plan, GNP+ will further develop the Global Advocacy Agenda through consultations with people living with HIV globally towards LIVING2012, the 13th international conference of people living with HIV. GNP+ will also adjust its structure and function – at the Board and the Secretariat - to make sure that GNP+’s vision of a powerful and united worldwide social movement of people living with HIV becomes a reality.
