GNP+ actively participates in and supports Communities Delegations to the Board of the Global Fund and UNITAID. We also work closely with the NGO Delegation to the Programme Coordinating Board of UNAIDS.
The Global Fund
GNP+ has strong ties – past and present – with the Communities Delegation to the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The Delegation has represented the communities living with HIV, TB and malaria since its establishment in 2004.
GNP+ stood at the cradle of the Global Fund and the Communities Delegation. At different moments in time GNP+ staff have served as Communications Focal Point, as Board Member or as Alternate Board Member. Currently, GNP+ Community Development Manager Rico Gustav is serving as a full Board Member.
The Delegation wants to ensure the Global Fund enables a future in which all communities living with or affected by HIV, TB and malaria have equitable access to quality services and support needed to prevent, treat and/or live with these infections within an environment that respects human rights. As Delegation members we bring the voices and issues of our communities to the deliberations of the Global Fund Board and its committees.
GNP+ has collaborated with the Communities Delegation to the UNITAID Board for many years and now hosts the Communications Focal Point of the Delegation in its Cape Town office.
UNITAID is engaged in finding new ways to prevent, treat and diagnose HIV, TB and malaria more quickly, more cheaply and more effectively. UNITAID takes game-changing ideas and turns them into practical solutions that can help accelerate the end of the three diseases.
At the Board, the Delegation ensures the voices of people living with and affected by HIV, TB and Malaria and those co-infected with HIV and HCV positively influence the decisions, priorities, programmes and overall impact of UNITAID.
This way we work towards an society in which people have access to tests, medicines and products that prevent new infections, are affordable and meet their needs.
Aside from community representation the delegation includes delegates from crosscutting areas such as market dynamics, pricing, new drug product development, intellectual property etc.
GNP+ works closely with members of the NGO Delegation to ensure community voices are represented. Their mission is to ensure that priorities and interests of key affected communities and constituencies are reflected in UNAIDS programmes and policies.
